Rapid City Woman Sentenced for Assaulting a Federal Officer

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rapid City woman charged with Assaulting a Federal Officer was sentenced on October 24, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Delmarie L. Wounded Head, a/k/a Delmarie Tallman, age 27, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, 1 year of supervised release, and a $25 victim assessment.

Wounded Head was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 13, 2011. In September 2010, at Allen, Wounded Head struck an Oglala Sioux Tribe law enforcement officer with a metal bar after the officer responded to a domestic complaint. Wounded Head pled guilty to the offense on July 15, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Oglala Sioux Tribe-Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

Wounded Head was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
